Decathlon is launching a multiservice marketplace dedicated to sports stays called Decathlon Travel. The northern brand that sells sports equipment offers a new networking platform in tourism, a sector particularly affected by the health crisis over the past 18 months.

There is something for everyone, from skiing, cycling, diving or even hiking, and for all budgets. The concept of Decathlon Travel consists of offering “tailor-made” sports trips. The customer locates a trip on the site and then requests a quote on the desired dates. Decathlon Travel advisers and marketplace partners then manage these requests to create a personalized stay.

Decathlon Travel relies on a network of tourist service providers specializing in a destination and a sport. The Decathlon Travel team tells ZDNet that the mission of the closed marketplace is to “highlight the best sports travel offers in order to make this type of travel more accessible. »Unlike a so-called” open “marketplace, it is not possible for any seller to offer their offer on the Decathlon Travel site without going through a selection process. Among the partner travel agencies, we find in particular Altaï, Dune, Loire à Vélo, ION club and Intrepid.

The online packaged sports travel business

Almost a year of development was necessary to set up the platform. The sports brand subsidiary is deploying an API strategy, and uses two in-house technologies, Decathlon OneID (for connection) and Decathlon OnePay (for online payment). For now, only payment by credit card is available, but the Decathlon Travel team wants to “open up new options in the coming months,” she told ZDNet.

“Behind technology and tools, our ambition is to democratize sports travel and for that, we must offer our customers an optimal experience. With Decathlon Travel, we are opening up a new path, that of packaged online sports travel, ”explains Estelle Verdier, General Manager of Decathlon Travel.

The Decathlon Travel team further specifies that the selection of offers should continue to grow over time. The platform also plans to “strengthen its integration with Decathlon’s technical solutions”, we are told. Decathlon Travel being a subsidiary of Decathlon, the sports brand is not remunerated directly from the platform, but “synergies” are imagined within the ecosystem.
